The Krishna community will commemorate the 40th anniversary of Krishna Lunch at UF tonight with a tribute to Beatles member George Harrison, who introduced many to the culture.
Here Comes the Sun, a musical and spiritual tribute to Harrison, debuts at 8 p.m. in University Auditorium.
"We thought this would be a nice way to broaden people's understanding of the Krishna movement and something people would enjoy," said Carl Woodham, chaplain of Gainesville's Krishna House.
The Krishna House will serve a free hot dinner for ticket holders on the Plaza of the Americas from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Woodham expects 400 to 600 people to attend.
Harrison biographer Joshua Greene will host the multimedia presentation of photos and video clips as the Godfrey Townsend Band plays 18 of Harrison's songs. Special guest Bada Haridas will perform Indian devotional music.
When Hare Krishna founder Srila Prabhupada visited Gainesville in 1971, he suggested Krishna followers serve food to locals. Since then, Krishna House has served vegetarian and vegan dishes to about 800 people five days a week. Each meal requires a $4 donation.
Tickets range from $10 to $25, depending on seat location. Students can purchase seats today at Krishna Lunch.
