UF student creates one-stop shop for UF's websites

A UF student is trying to make navigating UF’s website easier.

Nicolas Fry, a UF computer engineering senior created the website Gatorlinks.xyz on Dec. 23 to help students access UF’s pages more easily. On one page, students can visit UF’s dining, RecSports or financial aid websites.

The website, which shows links in blue boxes on an orange background, cost him $1.88 to buy, the 20-year-old said.

“I wanted to make it for the whole UF community,” he said.

Students can contact him to add other links, or add it themselves, Fry said. The website, which started with four links, now has 15.

While he said he doesn’t track how many have used the page, he’s gotten positive feedback from friends.

“My friends say, ‘Oh my God, this is exactly what I needed!’” Fry said.

Students sometimes create these websites as assignments, wrote UF spokesman Steve Orlando in an email.

“Anything that helps students find what they need online is a good thing, although we’re quite proud of the new UF website re-design, and we think students can find what they need there fairly quickly,” he said.

Kelly Mahoney, 21, said UF’s new website, which launched Nov. 3, is beautiful, but she likes the simplicity of Fry’s website.

“You can make a website great, but I think what it boils down to is how easy it is to use,” the UF religion junior said.
