Moseley and the Gator Party pass the test

By the Editorial Board

It's been seven months. Do you know what your Student Body president has been up to?

We'll give credit where credit is due: Ryan Moseley has accomplished much more than some of his predecessors.

Luckily, we've got a copy of the Gator Party's platform from the spring election. We pulled it up to grade Moseley and the Gator Party on what we think are the most important parts.

Investigate costly CD course packs: C+. Moseley has written an in-depth investigative report on this, but now the Faculty Senate has the situation locked. Good job on the legwork, but now Gator needs to see it through.

Improve Institute of Black Culture / La Casita facilities: C-. SG got companies to donate computers and furniture, yes, but what the facilities really need is money for renovation.

Revive Chomp the Vote: A. Chomp the Vote is one of the most cost-efficient organizations on campus, as well as one of the most vital. There was no excuse for SG to ignore this group in the past, and we're glad it has seen a revival this year.

Online advising appointments for all colleges: D. It doesn't seem like anything's happened with this one yet, but we're sure SG is still thinking about it, right? Plenty of offices on campus do this; it's time they all do.

Build a sustainable campus: A. This seems to be one issue this SG has taken to heart. Biodiesel for buses, solar panels for fields and adding more recycling bins are a good start. We'd like to see SG support more paper-recycling bins and encourage more conservation, though. That means turning off lights, raising the thermostat and monitoring water usage.

Cameras in Commuter and Park & Ride lots: F - but we're glad about that. This is one goal we thought was a little, um, dumb, so we're glad SG abandoned it in favor of GPS tracking for buses, for which it scores an A. We just hope it's actually effective.

On our 100 percent, completely objective grading scale (it involves a secret, highly scientific computer algorithm, so don't even ask), we give Moseley and his party a B. We'll even give Moseley a few extra-credit points for that great head of hair.

But he and the Gator Party better not get complacent - they've still got a lot of work to do in the spring.
