Florida earned its 12th commit in the class of 2022 recruiting cycle when three-star linebacker EJ Lightsey committed to the Gators Monday.
Lightsey is ranked 429th in the nation and 44th at his position, according to 247Sports.com. He hails from Fitzgerald, Georgia.
Some of his top offers were from Georgia Tech, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Louisiana State, Miami and Tennessee.
This is the second player linebackers coach Christian Robinson added to the fold this cycle. Four-star linebacker Shemar James pledged his collegiate career to Florida back on June 20.
The Gators needed to address the linebacker position this cycle because they have four players spending what is likely their final season with the program in 2021. Senior Amari Burney, redshirt senior Lacedrick Brunson and redshirt senior Ventrell Miller exhaust their college eligibility, while junior Mohamoud Diabate seems poised to make the leap to the NFL.
Lightsey joined the current Florida class with four-star commits like quarterback Nick Evers, cornerback Julian Humphrey, running back Terrance Gibbs, wide receiver Chandler Smith, offensive tackle Tony Livingston, athlete Isaiah Bond, and fellow three-stars like defensive lineman Francois Nolton, athlete Jamarrien Burt, tight end CJ Hawkins and kicker Trey Smack.
Coach Dan Mullen could have another recruit team up with the Gators Tuesday when three-star offensive tackle David Conner makes his announcement.
