Two UF lacrosse players were named as nominees for the 2012 Tewaaraton Award on Wednesday.
Gators junior attacker Kitty Cullen and junior midfielder Brittany Dashiell were among the 25 nominees for the award, which is given annually to the top player in both NCAA men’s and women’s lacrosse.
“It is a tremendous honor for both Brittany and Kitty to be named to the Tewaaraton Award nominee list,” Coach Amanda O’Leary said. “We are extremely proud of these young women who are excellent representatives of our program and the University of Florida.”
A top-five finalist for the award in 2011 after finishing second in the country with 77 goals, Cullen finished tied for 36th in the country this season with 59 points. After finishing with just six assists in 2011, Cullen took on more of a facilitator role in the 2012 regular season, tying the team lead with 20 assists.
Dashiell was one of Florida’s NCAA-leading four 50-point scorers, as she also notched 20 assists to go with 34 goals.
The list of nominees will be cut to five on May 10, with the top five men and women being honored and the winners being announced on May 31 at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
