A local couple that has spent that last two months at the hospital as their baby fights a blood infection will host a benefit show Sunday to raise money for medical bills.
The Little Ransom Edwards’ Benefit Show will take place at Loosey’s Downtown Gainesville at 1 p.m. It will be hosted by local DJ and comedian AJ Gil, with live music, food and a raffle, which will give away prizes such as certificates for tattoos and massages.
Ransom Delano Edwards, the son of Drew and Brielle Edwards, was taken to a hospital with a fever in May when he was a month and a half, said his mother.
Ransom had a blood infection, and he was admitted into the hospital with spiral meningitis.
It was a monthlong stay for the family at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital, and providing medical insurance for Ransom was not financially easy for the family, she said.
“It was about $3,000 to $5,000 a day for us to stay in there,” Brielle Edwards said, “So we’re raising money for the medical bills for the past couple of months to help us get them paid.”
Vinnie Dellucci, a bar manager at Stubbies and Steins who is also Ransom’s godfather, said he wants to do all he can to meet the family’s need.
“Basically, we’re going to help them out financially, because they had a pretty hefty hospital bill,” he said.
Brielle Edwards said that Ransom’s health is now improving.
“(He’s) fat and happy,” she said. “I would like to thank friends, family and the community for all the help. It’s awesome and so completely appreciated.”
Klaudia Gryfik, a 22-year-old UF business senior, said she thinks the benefit show is a good opportunity for the community to help support a local family in need.
“It’s nice to see local businesses helping out for a good cause,” Gryfik said.
