Next month, Gainesville’s Butler Plaza North will welcome a new restaurant.

Culver’s, located at 4036 SW 30th Place, is scheduled to open in December, said owner Patty Hageman.

The restaurant, which specializes in burgers and frozen custard, will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Hageman said, and it will not serve alcohol. Hageman also said she is planning to hire about 70 to 100 people.

Mary Schluter, Culver’s communications manager, said the Culver family founded the restaurant chain more than 30 years ago in Sauk City, Wisconsin. Currently, there are 587 Culver’s restaurants in 24 states, she said.

The chain has recently started breaking into the Florida market, said Rick Cain, the director of Front Street Commercial Real Estate Group.

“I think word of mouth will spread pretty quickly,” Cain said. “There’s a reason why they’ve had such phenomenal success.”

A standard value basket, which includes a sandwich, side and medium drink, costs $8.09. Prices can vary depending on add-ons such as upgrading the drink to a shake.

Erin Rathbone, a fourth-year UF criminal justice student, said she is really excited for Culver’s to open. The 24-year-old is from Wisconsin and grew up with Culver’s custards.

“I have memories of getting done with soccer practice and begging my mom to drive by and see what the flavor of the day was,” she said.
