Flocks of families, friends and fabled characters gathered at Depot Park Jan. 27-28 to revel in warm weather and high spirits at the 37th annual Hoggetowne Medieval Faire. This year’s event offered a different spin on the typical three-weekend affair, with free admission, a one-weekend schedule and a smaller event space.

But Robb Eggleston took a different approach. Donning a winged helmet, a lightning-decorated fanny pack and a toy hammer, Eggleston embarks on a weekly run every Thursday — or as he calls it, “Thorsday.” When Eggleston, 53, took up the mantle of the Norse thunder god, he said he did it to serve his community. City Commission addresses proposed funding cuts to RTS; UF invites city ‘back to the table’
Apr. 15The Gainesville City Commission held a special meeting Thursday addressing the reductions in funding for the Gainesville Regional Transit System proposed by UF during “good-faith talks” between the city and the university. No official decisions have been made regarding the proposed changes, and UF and the city are “still at the table,” according to a letter from UF sent Thursday.
