Puppies were welcomed to the Alachua County Humane Society after a new air conditioning unit was installed.


Each of UF’s seventeen Panhellenic Council sororities welcomed about 75 new members Sunday night in a flurry of hugs, tears and joyful celebration. About 1,400 women got bids, UF Panhellenic Council President Madison Rigdon said in an email. In 2017, a similar number of women recieved bids according to Alligator archives. About 1,600 women signed up for rush, which is similar to the number that has taken part in past years. Rigdon said this year there’s been a push by both UF’s Panhellenic Council and the National Panhellenic Council to focus on the values of individual chapters by allowing more time for conversation between the women rushing and the existing members.

Students and alumni from Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school visited Gainesville as part of their “Road to Change” bus tour on July 26th, 2018.  The event featured a Q&A session with local students and those from MSD as well as a meet and greet.

Students and alumni from Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school visited Gainesville as part of their “Road to Change” bus tour on July 26th, 2018.  The event featured a Q&A session with local students and those from MSD as well as a meet and greet.  


Children, students, and Gainesville residents rallied alongside survivors of the Parkland school shooting on July 26, 2018 at Congressman Ted Yoho's office.  The event was part of the MSD "Road to Change" tour in which students are calling for their local representatives to "say no" to the NRA.

The Cade Museum for Creativity & Innovation opened to the public Saturday, May 19.  The museum encourages learners of all ages to think like an inventor, meet an inventor, and be an inventor.  The grand opening event featured interactive activities in the museum’s Creativity and Fab Labs, as well as the unveiling of two completed exhibits.

The 2018 Swamp Challenge, which celebrated its eighth year this past weekend, is the only CrossFit-style event to take place on an SEC field, according to their website. Hundreds of athletes participated in cardio, bodyweight and obstacle workouts at the one day event across three classes, Male/Male, Female/Female and co-ed, and three divisions, Masters, Scaled and RX.
