The Alachua County Jail reported four additional cases of COVID-19, totaling to 12 confirmed cases.
While one of the inmates living in the outbreak area refused to be tested, 52 of the tests returned negative and 13 returned pending Monday, Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Art Forgey said. Monday evening, four of those pending tests came back positive.
The outbreak was traced to an inmate who has been in the jail for two weeks, Forgey said. The inmate remains in quarantine since the jail tested the person Friday evening.
Contact tracers tested 20 other inmates who were in contact with the ones who tested positive for the virus Monday, Forgey said. All tests came back negative.
A contract health care provider at the jail tested positive last week, Forgey said. He also told The Alligator no known cases have been linked to that staff member.
