Several small fires were reportedly set in the Satchel’s Pizza van Sunday. The Gainesville Police Department and Gainesville Fire Rescue responded to the call, and the investigation moved forward into Monday.
However, a shift transition delayed the assignment of an investigator to the case, which led to a lapse in communication, owner Satchel Raye said in a Facebook post.
According to the press release, GPD Chief Nelson Moya acknowledged the oversight during Wednesday’s meeting with Raye and GFR Interim Chief Shawn Hillhouse. Moya also emphasized GPD’s commitment to apprehend the suspect and maintain public safety.
“Whether you’re running a police department or a pizza restaurant, providing good service takes solid, reliable communication,” Moya said. “We’re taking what we learned here so we can do better going forward.”
According to an update to the press release on Wednesday afternoon, GPD arrested Legrand Tacogdoy, 34, in connection with the arson of the Satchel’s Pizza van. He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
