UF junior linebacker Shemar James has officially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft. James, a key veteran leader on the Florida defensive front this season, announced his intention to turn professional on Instagram Thursday evening.
James appeared in all 13 of Florida’s games in his freshman year, making an instant impact with the Gators while tallying 47 tackles and two sacks. He also got off to a hot start in 2023, recording a career-high 13 tackles in UF’s season-opener against Utah. However, he only appeared in eight games before sustaining a season-ending knee injury.
This year, in his third season with the Gators, James re-established himself as a workhorse and leader for UF’s linebacker room. The junior ranked second on the team in tackles (64) while also recording two sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
“I’m proud to say that I wore that orange and blue with pride every single Saturday,” James said in his announcement Friday. “Thank you Gator Nation for welcoming a kid from Mobile, Alabama into the Swamp.”
Florida’s pro day will take place on March 21, while the NFL Draft is set for April 24-26.
