Florida true freshman quarterback DJ Lagway will miss the rest of the Florida-Georgia rivalry game after sustaining a hamstring injury in the second quarter.
With just over five minutes remaining in the first half, Lagway slipped on a quarterback draw and remained on the ground after the play. As Florida's training staff attended to him, both sidelines emptied out onto the field, seemingly in a show of support for the freshman signal caller.
Lagway was eventually taken back to the locker room on a cart, exiting the field to thunderous applause from both fanbases. UF head coach Billy Napier went on to call the injury "pretty significant" at halftime, shortly before Lagway was ruled out for the remainder of the afternoon.
The freshman quarterback subsequently appeared on the Florida sideline in the second half sporting crutches a cast on his left leg.
Prior to his early exit, Lagway went 2-for-6 in the air for 47 yards and a touchdown. He also chipped in with four carries for 18 yards on the ground.
The full extent of Lagway's injury currently remains unclear, but he will likely miss significant time as Florida enters the home stretch of its 2024 campaign.
UF redshirt freshman Aidan Warner will take over under center for the remainder of the afternoon.
