Gators look dominant in sweep against Alabama State

Florida entered its matchup against Alabama State following an unexpected loss to Georgia Tech Wednesday.

The Gators took the court and asserted its dominance in a quick turnaround en route to 16 service aces, 30 kills and 11 blocks throughout the match.

Florida (6-2) came out victorious in a quick sweep against Alabama State (3-5) in Atlanta, Thursday.

Two kills from freshman middle blocker Jaela Auguste, five kills from redshirt senior outside hitter Isabel Martin and four kills from Thomas, as well two aces from graduate setter Erin Engel and fifth-year outside hitter AC Fitzpatrick, launched the Gators to a 25-13 first set victory.

Martin recorded six kills in the match and Auguste posted five kills, respectively.

Florida kept its stamina up in the second set, where freshman setter Taylor Parks had two consecutive aces and a solo block. She finished the match with three aces and 24 assists.

Fitzpatrick, fifth-year libero Elli McKissock, freshman libero Bella Lee and junior defensive specialist Emily Canaaneach tallied an ace in the second frame to help bring the Gators to 16 aces in the match.

Florida went on to claim the second set with another double-digit victory, earning the frame 25-12. 

Florida followed its same rhythm in the third and final set with a kill from freshman middle blocker Alec Rothe to open the frame. Fitzpatrick followed it up with an ace on the very next point.

McKissock served three consecutive aces early in the third set, extending Florida’s lead to 6-1. She totalled five aces in the match. 

The Gators continued to look sharp down the stretch, with Auguste, Fitzpatrick and Rothe recording two kills each throughout the entire set to finish 25-11.

Florida will next face in-state rivals Florida State in the O’Dome on Tuesday.
