On Wednesday, a Gainesville man allegedly attempted to run over a man with his car following a heated argument about money.
Reuben Manning confronted the man from his vehicle about money he owed him, leading to a verbal altercation. While the victim was walking through the parking lot, Manning yelled “I’m going to kill you cracker,” and accelerated forward in an attempt to run him over. The victim was struck by the vehicle and flew over the hood, sustaining injuries that required medical treatment, according to the arrest report.
The incident was witnessed by three bystanders and recorded on video. Two were not identified on the arrest report, and the third declined to comment.
The victim was unavailable for comment.
While fleeing the scene, Manning damaged a traffic sign worth $500, and police discovered marijuana in his car during a traffic stop, according to the arrest report.
Manning later admitted to arguing with the man and intentionally hitting him with his car but denied saying he was going to kill him.
Manning was charged with a capital felony, premeditated attempted murder, damage to property less than $1,000 and possession of marijuana.
His prior charges include possession of cocaine, marijuana and a firearm as a convicted felon as well as theft.
