The UF Police Department and Gainesville Police Department arrested two men Sunday night in response to reports of gunshots at the intersection of Hull Road and SW 34th Street.

Police arrested Kendrick Latrell Casmere, 20, of Gainesville and Triavez Jhakir Isaiah Hankerson, 20, of Newberry. UFPD trespassed both Casmere and Hankerson from campus for three years.

Casmere is being charged with four felonies, including grand theft of a firearm, underage possession of a firearm, underage possession of ammunition and resisting arrest. Hankerson is charged with one felony count of carrying a concealed firearm.

Neither Casmere nor Hankerson have any criminal history. Judge Lorelie Brannan found no probable cause for any of the charges and ordered them to be released on their own recognizance Tuesday morning.

UFPD and GPD officers heard shots fired Sunday at 7:50 p.m. at the UF Park and Ride parking lot near the UF Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine building on 3450 Hull Road, according to a Clery Timely Warning issued by the UFPD. Officers were already at the parking lot in response to a large crowd that had gathered from a nearby block party.

One person was injured during the incident and was treated for minor injuries. There were no reported gunshot injuries.

UFPD arrested Hankerson at 7:51 p.m. at 3137 Hull Road. Police wrote that Hankerson’s white Chevrolet Corvette had been identified as “related to the incident” but provided no explanation in their arrest report. After Hankerson was read his Miranda rights, he told police he owned a handgun that was under the driver’s seat of his car.

Hankerson told The Alligator he was attending a party at Varsity House apartments when he heard gunshots. He said he left as soon as he heard the gunshots and said he wasn’t responsible for the shooting.

Gainesville police arrested Casmere at 8:10 p.m. in the Varsity House parking lot, located at 3700 Hull Road. Police wrote they saw a group of people making “furtive movements” and saw Casmere in his car with a handgun in his lap. Police found three handguns during a search of Casmere’s car that he admitted belonged to him after he was read his Miranda rights.

Casmere didn’t respond to calls to the phone number listed in his arrest report.

UFPD and GPD were not immediately available for comment.

UFPD and GPD are continuing to investigate the incident and encourage anyone with information regarding this incident or information about suspicious activity in the area to contact UFPD at (352) 392-1111 or via the UFPD Silent Witness portal.
