The Florida men’s swimming and diving team closed its season Saturday at the Men’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana. The team finished third overall and sophomore Joshua Liendo earned three individual national titles.
Competition began Wednesday, and senior Adam Chaney, junior Julian Smith, sophomore Josh Liendo and junior Macguire McDuff placed first in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of one minute, 20.15 seconds. This set new NCAA, championship meet and program records.
McDuff, Smith, junior Oskar Lindholm and Jake Mitchell finished the 800 free relay in 6:08.00 seconds, placing fourth and recording the second-best time in program history.
Thursday featured two individual national title wins and six program records.
Liendo claimed first in the 50 free, recording a time of 18.07 seconds.
Florida’s relay team of Chaney, Smith, Liendo and McDuff placed first in the 200 free, finishing the event in 1:13.49 seconds.
Sophomore Peyton Donald, senior Anton Svirskyi, and freshman Conor Gesing all competed in the 1-meter preliminaries. However, only Donald placed among the Top 16 at the end of the preliminaries. He placed 14th in the consolation final, scoring 349.25 points
Liendo secured his second individual national title Friday, earning first place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 43.07 seconds. Chaney placed third in the 100 back with a time of 43.99 seconds.
Senior Skip Donald and Peyton Donald both competed in the 3-meter springboard. Skip Donald advanced to the consolation finals where he placed 16th with a score of 355.30 points. Peyton Donald failed to qualify for finals, placing 21st and scoring 348.25 points in preliminaries.
On Saturday, the last day of competition, Liendo earned yet another individual national title in the 100 free with a time of 40.20 seconds.
Skip Donald and Svirsky both failed to qualify for the platform finals, placing 31st and 40th in preliminaries.
In the 1,650 free, sophomore Giovanni Linscheer placed second with a time of 14:36.01 seconds, while freshman Andrew Taylor followed behind in third with a time of 14:37.80 seconds.
Florida claimed second place in the 400 free relay where Liendo, Chaney, Smith and McDuff finished the event in 2:44.21 seconds.
