Lake City man arrested after shooting at ex-girlfriend's car

The man previously shot his ex-girlfriend in May 2023

A Lake City man was arrested Sunday after shooting at his ex-girlfriend's car several times, with an additional person in the car, while in his own vehicle.

Demarcus Wilson, 28, was charged with discharging a firearm from a vehicle, missile into a dwelling vehicle and two counts of premeditated first degree murder, according to court records.

Wilson is held at the Alachua County Jail where his bond hasn’t been set.

It’s unknown what the second person’s relationship is to Wilson’s ex-girlfriend and Wilson.

Around 3:55 p.m Wilson's ex told police she went to a nearby block party and saw Wilson there. Wilson then asked her to give him a ride to his car, according to an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

While driving to his vehicle, the woman’s phone began to ring. Wilson then became irate and mentioned that she messed with his feelings and was playing games, according to the arrest report.

Once dropped off, Wilson began following the two by tracking the second person’s phone through an app. He followed them onto Newberry Road where he almost caused his ex’s car to crash.

She had to avoid him several times and began to run red lights, fearing for her and the passenger’s safety. Wilson’s ex-girlfriend then drove onto Interstate 75 North and went under the overpass before hearing a bang, according to the police report.

The woman kept driving past the 392-mile marker when Wilson shot at her vehicle again. She called police, and the 911 responder heard the gunshots, according to the police report.

Her car was shot at six times before ACSO was able to stop Wilson’s vehicle.

Once stopped, police noticed spent shell casings in Wilson’s vehicle. Wilson told police that the gun was in his glove box but denied shooting at the other car, according to the police report.

Wilson later told police he did shoot at the other car in order to scare the people inside but didn’t try to kill them, according to the police report.
