Florida women’s basketball secured the signing of Alivia “Liv” McGill Wednesday, officially making her the highest-ranked recruit in program history.
The 5-foot-9-inch point guard is ranked seventh in the nation, according to ProspectsNation. She also ranks 16th in the country, according to ESPN HoopGurlz.
McGill is the second five-start to commit to the Gators under head coach Kelly Rae Finley, along with Laila Reynolds, who is a freshman on this season’s team.
“Having known Liv since 6th grade, it has been a joy to watch her develop both on and off the court,” Finley said. “I truly believe that her best is yet to come."
The Florida men’s basketball team also landed the signing of a top recruit. Four-star guard Isaiah Brown signed with Todd Golden’s Gators Wednesday. The 6-foot-5-inch guard is the 112th-ranked player in the nation, according to the 247Sports composite.
“As a player, he’s a relentless attacker of the rim in transition and has a knack for making winning plays on both ends,” Golden said. “We are really happy to add him to our team.”
Golden’s shown an ability to recruit central Florida well. Brown, an Orlando native, is the third player from the city to join the Gators under Golden, along with sophomore guards Riley Kugel and Denzel Aberdeen.
“We are thrilled to welcome Isaiah into our basketball program here at the University of Florida,” Golden said. “He’s an exceptional young man who possesses many of the qualities we look for when we recruit.
The Gators women’s basketball team will play its next game against Bethune Cookman at 6 p.m. Thursday. The Florida men’s basketball team will take on Virginia next at 7 p.m. Friday.
