Florida head coach Tim Walton announced the addition of former Gators softball outfielder Francesca Enea as the team’s newest assistant coach Monday afternoon.
Enea's collegiate career at Florida spanned from 2007 to 2010. She broke the Southeastern Conference career home run record with 61. She also set career records at Florida in home runs, RBIs and total bases.
"I am beyond excited to add Francesca to our coaching staff," Walton said. "She is such a special person to me and my family, and I sincerely look forward to her starting her coaching career here back in Gainesville."
Enea is all over the record book for the Gators. set a single-season program record of 64 RBIs, 137 total bases and six sacrifice flies during her sophomore season in 2008. She then tied the single-season program record for 17 home runs in the same season.
Enea broke her own record the following year in 2009, when she belted 18 home runs en route to the Gators' first-ever appearance at the Women's College World Series.
"Choosing to play softball at the University of Florida for Coach Walton was one of the best decisions of my life," Enea said. "I look forward to returning and continuing the tradition of winning championships at the best university in the world while helping out student-athletes achieve their dreams on and off the field."
During her senior season in 2010, Enea finished her career ranked on in the top 10 of in 20 career records and 25 single-season records. Enea went on to play professionally with the United States Specialty Sports Association from 2010 to 2013 before she became an analyst for softball for broadcasts across the SEC.
"Francesca is a very talented individual and is going to be such a great addition to our staff," Walton said.
