Gainesville man arrested after a three hour negotiation for alleged shooting

Victim is in critical condition

A Gainesville man was arrested on Wednesday morning on suspicion of shooting a man near a Chevron.

Zakee L. Koon, 39, was charged with charges of attempted murder in the first degree, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and carrying a concealed weapon.

GPD responded to reports of a shooting at Chevron, located at 1516 SE 4th St. at approximately 8:48 p.m Tuesday. 

Officers arrived at the scene and confirmed with the cashier that he heard three gunshots, according to the arrest report.

One person was dropped off at UF Health Shands Hospital and found with multiple gunshot wounds.

GDP SWAT and Negotiation Response Team responded to the scene at 6:00 a.m. Wednesday. 

Koon was spotted at 10:00 a.m., in the area of 1900 SE 4th St., where he ran and barricaded himself inside an apartment. 

After three hours, NRT made contact with Koon and negotiated his surrender with no incident.

Koon was arrested and taken to Alachua County Jail. His bond is set for $750,000 for all three counts.

The victim is currently in Shands with life-threatening injuries.
