The UF Levin College of Law located at 309 Village Drive Friday, Nov, 4, 2022.

UF Provost Joe Glover announced that law professor Merritt McAlister will fill in the position of Levin College of Law interim dean in an administrative memo sent Wednesday afternoon.

McAlister will begin in her role June 1. UF plans to conduct a national search to permanently replace former dean Laura Rosenbury soon, according to the memo.

The announcement comes about a month after Rosenbury was selected as Barnard College president.

UF spokesperson Cynthia Roldan declined to comment further.

McAlister joined the UF law faculty in 2018 and teaches the Federal Courts, Constitutional Law, Federal Habeas Corpus and Judicial Decisionmaking courses. Her award-winning work has been published in several university law reviews.

She currently serves as the Association of American Law Schools Section on Federal Courts chair.

Before working at UF, McAlister was a partner of King & Spalding, a national appellate practice group. She was also elected to the American Law Institute and named a Georgia Super Lawyer, a rating lawyers get after attaining a high degree of professional achievement.

McAlister studied English and women and gender studies at Rice University. She graduated with her law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law
