The Southern California Trojans snapped the Florida Gators’ four-match winning streak Saturday.
The No. 7 Trojans (5-0) beat the No. 15 Gators (4-2) 5-2 to remain undefeated on their season. The match marked the Gators’ second of three games at the United States Tennis Association National Campus.
Florida started off strong, dominating in the doubles matches.
Graduate student Alex Nefve and junior Will Grant beat USC senior Stefan Dostanic and graduate student Bradley Frye 6-3 in the first match.
Gators freshman Jonah Braswell and senior Lukas Greif took down Trojans sophomore Wojtek Marek and senior Samuel Rubell 6-4 in the next match to take the doubles point.
The third doubles match between the Gators’ freshman duo of Tanapatt Nirundorn and Togan Tokac and USC sophomore Peter Makk and junior Lodewijk Weststrate was cut short since Florida already clinched the doubles point.
The Trojans took over in the singles round.
Dostanic beat Nefve in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, for USC’s first point. Makk then beat Grant in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, as well.
Sophomore Ryan Colby secured the Trojans’ third point, beating Greif in two sets, 6-2, 6-4.
Braswell was able to stop the bleeding for a bit. He beat Frye in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to shorten USC’s lead to 3-2.
The Trojans finished strong in the last two singles matches. Marek defeated Gators sophomore Nate Bonetto in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Weststrate took care of Tokac in the last singles match, winning a tough three-set battle, 7-5, 5-7, 10-8.
Florida will look to bounce back at 11 a.m. Sunday against the No. 16 Stanford Cardinal in its final match at the USTA National Campus.
