Graduate student Pal Egan hit her first career home run as a Gator after she transferred from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Egan’s homer added to Florida’s double-digit lead in the fourth inning against the Delaware State Hornets.

“It’s the best feeling in the world,” Egan said. “I definitely wouldn’t have been able to do it without my teammates, who have been able to help me become a better teammate on and off the field.”

Egan credited her growth as a player and her performance to her teammates, she said.

The No. 3 Florida Gators (10-0) blew past Delaware State (2-4) 15-0 Sunday afternoon to finish out their doubleheader.

Sophomore right handed pitcher Lexie Delbrey made her season debut and managed to keep the Hornets scoreless in the top of the first inning.

Sophomore second baseman Reagan Walsh came up to bat with the bases loaded. Walsh doubled to right center for three runs batted in to open the scoring, 3-0.

Egan singled up the middle, and Walsh scored to extend the lead to 4-0. Freshman designated hitter Kaila Pollard reached on an error by center field, and junior first baseman Avery Goelz scored to extend the lead to 5-0.

Junior left fielder Katie Kistler flied out to center field, and Egan came home to push the score to 6-0 to end the first inning.

Delbrey kept Delaware State scoreless at the top of the second. Goelz singled down the right field line and brought both Walsh and graduate student third baseman Charla Echols home to make it 8-0.

Egan lined out to center field, and sophomore catcher Sam Roe scored as the lead swelled to 9-0 at the end of the second inning.

Echols doubled to center field, and both senior utility player Sarah Longley and sophomore center fielder Kendra Falby scored to extend the lead to 11-0. Roe singled up the middle, and junior catcher Emily Wilkie scored to push UF’s advantage to 12-0.
