Micanopy resident arrested on suspicion of homicide

He was already in custody on drug trafficking, conspiracy charges

A Micanopy resident faces a homicide charge after Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputies connected him to the bloody scene of a murder in the rural town 14 miles away from Gainesville.

Corey Grimmage, 37-year-old Gainesville resident, was fatally shot off Northeast Sixth Avenue in Micanopy. Over a month later, ACSO officials believe they found the killer.

Micanopy resident Joshua Emmanuel Hall received an additional charge of homicide Jan. 19, after already being arrested on gun and drug charges.

Law enforcement arrived Dec. 7 to the scene where deputies found Grimmage dead, without any identification, currency or transportation methods. Four days prior, ASCO received reports of a Dodge Avenger driving in the area and what sounded like gunshots, according to the affidavit.

Soon after, a woman told ASCO she had loaned Grimmage a car of the same make and model Dec. 1, and was supposed to have received it by then.

Using license plate recognition systems, deputies found the car at Arbor Apartments stained with blood, littered with bullets on its hood. There, law enforcement found a phone.

Deputies later matched fingerprints on the phone and car to Hall’s, according to the arrest report. The phone was found to be Grimmage’s and had conversations with Hall’s social media account stored on it related to the sale of narcotics, according to the affidavit.

Hall was arrested Dec. 20 on drug trafficking and criminal conspiracy charges on a warrant. Then, police also found a gun, narcotics and another phone on him, according to the report.

There, Hall faced three drug charges, two charges of criminal conspiracy and the illegal use of a communications device and two weapon charges.

His newly recovered phone showed cellular data of him traveling to areas in Micanopy at the same time Grimmage’s phone was.

Soon after, another person contacted law enforcement claiming after a night in December, Hall showed up to their apartment with the most money they had ever seen him with.

Lab results Jan. 18 matched the bullets Grimmage was killed with to the gun found on Hall.

Hall faces one count of homicide without premeditation. A court date hasn’t yet been scheduled relative to the homicide charge as of Jan. 19.
