Gainesville police cars respond to a hit-and-run Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2023.

An adult man on a bicycle was killed Tuesday in what police believe was a hit-and-run.

The Gainesville Police Department responded to reports of a downed cyclist in an alley behind the Kohl's department store located off Southwest Archer Road around 12:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Police rushed him to UF Health Shands Hospital, where he died shortly after. The man’s injuries showed evidence of a vehicle hitting him, said David Chudzik, GPD spokesperson.

It’s unclear if the man was affiliated with UF.

GPD believes a gray Toyota pickup truck, which was spotted leaving the area at high speeds, hit and killed the man, Chudzik said.

There’s been no arrest made as of 4 p.m. Tuesday in connection with the incident as police continue to investigate.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
