Pedestrian killed on Archer Road after being hit by two cars

Woman fell after being hit by the first car, run over seconds later by another car

A pedestrian was hit and killed by two different vehicles Friday morning on Southwest Archer Road.

One car driven by a 51-year-old Gainesville man and another car, driven by a 55-year-old Gainesville woman, were heading eastbound on Southwest Archer Road at 6:45 Friday morning when they hit the unidentified woman, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Both vehicles were traveling in the inside lane through the intersection at Southwest Archer Road and Southwest 63rd Avenue when a pedestrian walked into the eastbound inside lane of traffic.

On the pedestrian’s way across Archer Road, the Gainesville man swerved and braked to avoid hitting her but hit her at low speeds causing her to fall on the street, according to FHP.

Seconds later, the woman — driving behind the man who had hit the pedestrian — ran over the pedestrian in her car because she didn’t see her in the roadway.

The pedestrian, whose identity has not been released, died from her injuries from the collision, according to FHP.
