Redshirt freshman Florida safety Kamar Wilcoxson announced on Twitter Thursday that he’s leaving the football program and will be entering the transfer portal.
“Over the course of the past year my life has drastically changed,” Wilcoxson said in his statement. “I feel like a fresh start would be in my best interest.”
Wilcoxson signed with the Gators as a four-star prospect in the class of 2020. He redshirted his freshman season and played sparingly for Florida at the STAR position this season. Wilcoxson wasn’t listed on the depth chart against Georgia.
The Gators have other young safeties playing ahead of Wilcoxson, including freshman Kamari Wilson and junior Tre’Vez Johnson.
The redshirt freshman defensive back is the second Gators’ player to leave the program this week, after starting linebacker Brenton Cox Jr. was dismissed from the program on Monday.
The Gators travel to face the Texas A&M Aggies Saturday at noon. The game will broadcast on ESPN.
