A beloved breakfast spot caught fire early Monday morning, causing it to close temporarily as authorities investigate the cause.

No one was harmed at Peach Valley Cafe, located at 3275 SW 34th St. near Tropical Smoothie Cafe, Gainesville Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Stephen Hesson said.

GFR responded to a 911 call made by a Hooters employee who saw smoke coming from the building at 1:21 a.m. as the other restaurant was closing next door, Hesson said.

Firefighters arrived at 1:26 a.m., Hesson said, and firefighters put out the structural fire in two minutes.

“On arrival, the first units observed smoke coming from the building near the roof area and some of the openings on the lower area,” Hesson.

The firefighters used an “interior attack” to resolve the incident, which involved using hose lines brought inside the building to extinguish the fire, Hesson said.

The fire appears to have originated in the kitchen, he said. It’s unclear if anyone was inside, Hesson said, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Peach Valley Cafe management responded to a Facebook message Monday declining to comment on the incident, but said they are “working hard to find the cause of the fire.”

It’s not clear as of Tuesday when the restaurant will reopen.
