Florida Gators gymnastics star Megan Skaggs will join UF’s coaching staff for the upcoming season. An update to the Florida gymnastics coaching staff lists Skaggs as an assistant to the head coach. Although her season seemed like the perfect sendoff, the powerhouse has unfinished business in Gainesville.
The Gators alum will start in her new position Monday.
Skaggs completed her graduate degree in entrepreneurship this spring. She capped off her final collegiate season with five All-American honors at the NCAA Championships, the maximum possible. Skaggs and Trinity Thomas are the only two gymnasts to accomplish the feat in 2022.
Skaggs’ coach biography gives a brief description of her duties:
“In her new role, Skaggs focuses on the many details in the team’s daily and travel schedules,” the biography says. “She’ll help coordinate the team’s many Goodwill Gator activities, organize recruiting visits, be on the sidelines during meets along with coordinating many other points to help the Gators find success on and off the competition floor.”
Skaggs has proven herself capable of providing guidance for gymnasts on and off the floor. She was named to an All-SEC team three times in her career and is a four-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. Skaggs was named the Athlete Advocate of the Year at the 2022 INFLCR Name, Image and Likeness summit.
The five-year Gators vet will likely make a quick impact on coaching and recruiting at Florida as she transitions into the next step of her career.
