A tractor trailer T-boned a bus Friday morning at a Lafayette County intersection, sending seven victims to UF Health Shands Hospital.
The 2007 Freightliner bus had 39 passengers on board during the collision at 6:30 a.m., according to FHP. One person was in critical condition when they arrived at the hospital, one in serious condition, three in fair condition and two in good condition, said Ken Garcia, Shands Hospital spokesperson.
FHP only identified the passengers as “migrant workers.”
A 2017 Freightliner semi truck was traveling west on County Road 354, when the driver, a 56-year-old from Live Oak City, ran a stop sign. As he crossed State Road 51, he hit a bus traveling north on the state road, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
The front of the bus struck the left side of the trailer, separating the vehicle from its trailer. The semi truck and the bus locked together and ran off the northwest shoulder, where the semi flipped onto its right side.
The semi truck driver was transported to Shands and cited for failure to stop at the stop sign.
