Florida women’s basketball standout Lavender Briggs is entering the transfer portal, interim head coach Kelly Rae Finley announced in Thursday’s postgame press conference. Briggs’ bio and statistics are no longer listed on the team’s website at floridagators.com.

The junior announced on Instagram Jan. 7 that she would miss the remainder of the season due to a stress reaction in her lower leg. She has not made an appearance for the Gators since their 73-69 loss to Georgia on Jan. 2.

Briggs was Florida’s leading scorer and rebounder through their first 14 games this year. Having started in all 61 games she appeared in in her Florida tenure, she will leave Gainesville only 39 points away from scoring her one thousandth point as a Gator.

The Provo, Utah native averaged 15.8 points per game for her Florida career in addition to 6.2 rebounds. She and graduate student Kiki Smith were the SEC’s highest scoring duo last year at an average of 38.3 points per game.

Briggs, a three-time All-SEC honoree, was the first Gator in five years to earn postseason All-SEC distinction when she was named a Second Team member in Florida’s 2020-2021 campaign. This season, she earned preseason All-SEC honors along with Smith.
