Santa Fe College COVID-19 Update: Seven positive cases reported in last week

The college’s total number of reported positive cases since March 2020 is now 1,064

Santa Fe College reported seven positive COVID-19 cases from Sept. 28 to Oct. 4, all from students. No employees reported testing positive.

There were 21 fewer reported cases than the previous week— a decrease of 75%.

The total number of reported positive cases since March 2020 is 1,064, with 970 cases from students and 94 from employees, according to a report from Santa Fe’s director of human resources Lela Frye.

The college opened 11 employee COVID-19 case investigations and 69 student case investigations last week.

According to Frye’s report, seven students, but no employees may have been on campus while positive. There has been no additional exposures or community spread from on-campus positive cases.

The college requests all students, faculty and staff perform a daily self-assessment checklist before going to campus. Masks are not required on campus, but the college strongly encourages anyone visiting Santa Fe property to wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status.

The college also requires students who test positive for COVID-19, experience any symptoms, or believe they have come in close contact with someone who has COVID-19 to fill out a confidential online form, disclosing any potential exposure or positive test results.

Santa Fe strongly encourages anyone who can get the COVID-19 vaccine to do so.

The college also launched a new vaccine incentive program Sept. 15. All employees, including full-time and part-time, along with all current students who have received either both shots of the Pfizer, the Moderna vaccine, or one shot of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, by Oct. 31 will receive $60.
