High Springs Artwalk featured multiple artists and creators from Gainesville and its surrounding areas Saturday.
Optimistic and eager to showcase their art, local artists and vendors gathered to provide patrons with unique art displays.
Most vendors at the event previously worked with the organizer of Artwalk Jaya Brew.
Brew owns a shop called Unique Notions, and she provides a space where some vendors at the event have their art for sale.
She said multiple art forms were represented at the event.
“It’s a lot of mixed media,” she said. “We have potters, we have painters, resin pour people. We will have live painters also.”
In addition to the Artwalk, Saturday was the grand opening of Sanna’s Closet.
Sanna’s Closet is found inside Unique Notions and is a new section of the store that features unique apparel and sterling silver gemstone jewelry provided by Sanna Saare, a High Springs local and owner of Sanna’s Closet.
Different curation methods were displayed in the artwork the vendors brought.
Allison Garland, a second-year biology major at the University of Florida, said art is a passion for her and she enjoys doing it in her free time.
Owner of Alfy Gal Designs, Garland’s form of art is painting. She paints on multiple surfaces including thrifted clothing, old vinyl records, CDs, poster boards, ceramics and glassware.
“Hand me anything, and I'll paint on it,” Garland said. “It really helps me keep art in my life.”
Another artist at the event was Linda Lockman, creator of Woods and Tides Designs.
Lockman described her art as “handmade jewelry, with a piece of nature.”
Whether it be a shell, an acorn or a stone from a river, Lockman said she makes her artwork from things she’s collected.
Whatever reason brought attendees to High Springs, the Artwalk event had artwork surrounding many corners of downtown.
Isabelle Stratton, a third-year UF art major, came to High Springs to visit an art supply store and was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon the Artwalk.
“I love art,” Stratton said. “I was really excited to see everyone out and about again, going to events like this.”
The enthusiasm from the artists filled the day as they looked forward to participating in future Artwalk events.
Artwalk is a free event for all attendees to enjoy and artists to share their work. The event will take place in downtown High Springs every third Saturday of the month.
