Three-star tight end CJ Hawkins committed to Florida Sunday.
The junior announced his decision on Twitter with the caption “Blessed.”
Hawkins received interest from 28 other schools, including Alabama, FSU, Georgia, Stanford, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and Yale. The 6-foot-7-inch, 220-pound player received an offer Mar. 9. Tight ends coach Tim Brewster recruited Hawkins.
While he reposted all his offers on Instagram and Twitter, he appeared most ecstatic with Florida’s, as it’s his mother’s alma mater.
The Tampa native started his football career junior year of high school. He played basketball before.
MaxPreps lists Hawkins with two pass catches with 41 yards and a touchdown last season.
He becomes the third player from the class of 2022 to commit to Florida this week, following three-star quarterback Nick Evers and four-star offensive tackle Tony Livingston.
Hawkins will fill a void on the Gators’ team after former tight end Kyle Pitts declared for the NFL draft.
