A Jacksonville woman is dead following a crash on Waldo Road in Gainesville Sunday evening.
At about 5:30 p.m., a 44-year-old woman in a black Hyundai sedan was driving westbound on Waldo Road when she crashed into a tractor semi truck driven by a 42-year old man from Bradenton, according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release.
The woman lost control of the sedan for “unknown reasons,” crossed the inside center median and entered the eastbound lane before the two vehicles collided, according to the release. Fire rescue pronounced the woman dead at the scene, and the tractor truck driver was not injured.
FHP Lt. Patrick Riordan said the department received a call about the crash a few minutes before 6:30 p.m. FHP is conducting a traffic homicide investigation into the crash, Riodan said.
The crash happened on Northeast 63rd Avenue past the Gainesville Airport near Alachua County Eco-Industrial park.
Waldo Road, also known as State Road 24, is a roadway with frequent fatal crashes. In a 2019 two-car crash, three adults died and a newborn and 4-year-old were injured. In Jan 2020, 32-year-old Christopher Wilmer died in a motorcycle crash on the road.
