People are taking notice of the UF women’s swimming and diving team after its 508-421 victory at the Auburn Invitational last month.
Now No. 7, the team shot up three spots in the Swimming and Diving Association of America’s Top 25 poll Thursday.
The news should give the Gators a sense of déjà vu for the Gators as the women’s team finished in the same rank before it went on to place second in the SEC earlier this year.
The Gators only swam in three meets this semester. They lost the first to Georgia 184-116 but defeated Miami in the second 190-94.
The victory over Auburn to capped off 2020 with Talia Bates netting a time of 48.52 seconds in the 100-meter freestyle — good for the tenth best in program history. Cecilia Porter also set a new school record of 59.55 seconds in the 100-meter breaststroke.
Florida will get a chance to prove itself next month, when it will face Texas A&M, North Florida and the Tigers in a rematch.
