UF sent an email Friday afternoon detailing various university updates regarding COVID-19.

Gov. Ron DeSantis issued a stay-at-home order for the entire state Wednesday. It went into effect Thursday at midnight.

Since UF President Kent Fuchs’ email on March 11, the university has encouraged students to go home.

Here are some updates and notices from the the university’s Friday email:

Using your Gainesville address when filling out the census

UF encourages students to take part in the census. Despite students going home because of COVID-19, Fuchs is still encouraging them to put their Gainesville address.

In most cases, students who live on- or off-campus in the Gainesville area at least six months out of the year should use their school address instead of their parent’s or family’s address, even if displaced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to an email sent by UF Public Affairs.

This includes students who live in residence halls and international students who live in the UF area most of the time. Students who live at home in the Gainesville area should use their home address, the email read.

The census takes an average of 10 minutes to complete and would bring federal resources to the UF community over the next decade, the email read.

A resource list to prevent Zoom bombing

UF is finding a way to prevent Zoom bombing now that it uses Zoom for remote learning.

“Zoom bombing” refers to intentional hacking of meetings taking place on Zoom. Settings in the Zoom app allow students and professors to ensure that only authorized attendees can join the meeting, the email read.

UF Student Government Senate had its second virtual meeting Tuesday, which fell victim to Zoom bombing. Genitalia, naked butts and swastikas were drawn or flashed across screens.

UF created a resource list to prevent Zoom bombing, including how to work the app and etiquette guidelines while in a Zoom meeting, the email read. This includes always assuming that your classmates and professor can hear and see you, waiting your turn to talk and limiting side conversations.

Student Legal Services

UF has provided four attorneys to help students with lease reviews and property damage.

The program, Student Legal Services, provides a wide array of legal services for students and student organizations, such as lease reviews and property damage, the Friday email read. It is funded by SG.

Students can visit the program’s website to reach out for guidance.

Virtual Student Union

Students can have access to UF’s resources, programs, services and student events by visiting its Virtual Student Union

With this, students can participate in virtual fitness classes, wellness coaching, resume workshops and other student events through the regularly updated website, the email read.
