A dozen COVID-19 cases have been confirmed among residents and staff at a UF-affiliated retirement community.
Oak Hammock, which houses roughly 500 residents among its 136-acre site, confirmed in a statement that six residents and six staff have tested positive for the virus. The positive cases are now isolated in the facility’s memory care unit, spokesperson Nickie Doria wrote in a statement to The Alligator.
Doria confirmed that the infected staff are off campus at this time. While tests have been conducted on other residents and staff in the facility, it’s unknown how many are currently pending.
“We are working closely with government officials to ensure that all necessary steps are taken, including the continued testing of additional residents and staff who live and work in other areas of our campus,” the statement read.
Of Alachua County’s 200 total COVID-19 cases confirmed this evening, 21 are residents or staff in long-term care facilities, according to the latest daily report from the state department of health.
The county has a total of 27 hospitalizations, according to the state dashboard. No deaths have been reported.
Despite pressure from reporters and the public, Gov. Desantis has yet to release the names of which nursing homes, assisted living and long-term care facilities across the state have positive cases of the virus.
Of the state’s more than 23,000 total confirmed cases of the virus, 1,454 are residents or staff in long-term care facilities, according to a daily report from the state.
