Interested in arts, culture and entertainment? The Avenue is looking for a team of ambitious staff writers to cover music, art, fashion, food and drink, theater, TV, film, nightlife and lifestyle.
Click HERE to apply to The Avenue. Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12.
Avenue writers are expected to produce one to three stories per week, primarily for our weekly publication, but additional stories for digital or news publication.
Writers should be up-to-date with local events and trends. They should have extensive knowledge of at least one of the subject areas.
The Avenue team has more freedom than a traditional daily news writer. If you’d like to photograph fashion trends, produce Q&A’s with local bands, write personal essays about collegiate culture, critique restaurants, review movies and plays, and much more, this is the place for you.
Journalism students are preferred, but all majors are welcome to apply. The position is unpaid, but writers will gain valuable experience and establish countless contacts in the Gainesville community. Applicants must be either UF or Santa Fe students. Three to four writers will be selected.
For any questions or concerns, contact Cassandra Perez at cperez@alligator.org.
Flipturn is one of the many Gainesville bands the Avenue staff enjoys covering.
