Duarte Vale’s fall resume has impressed many, so far, collecting 12 consecutive wins this fall. On Sunday, he kept the streak alive.
The No. 52 ranked junior entered the ITA Southeast Regional Championships undefeated. He notched two more wins to advance to the singles main draw finals match.
Vale, who was the tournament’s fourth-overall seed, had the match of the day, upsetting No. 1 Gabriel Decamps of UCF. Decamps entered as the 29th-ranked player in the country.
The match between the two was tight, as expected, with Vale and Decamps exchanging games in the first set. After a 4-4 tie, Vale capitalized on Decamps’ mistakes and stole the first set.
The second was more of the same. Decamps attempted to force a decisive third set but Vale brushed aside his comeback efforts. The sophomore defeated the Knight 6-4, 6-4 to advance to his third-consecutive finals appearance in as many tournaments this season.
Vale will play another UCF opponent in the final, taking on No. 82 Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi.
Florida’s Brian Berdusco and Andy Andrade each collected a consolation win Sunday, but both juniors fell in three-set tiebreakers in the consolation semifinal round to cut their weekends short.
