Deputies believe a Sunday morning home invasion robbery led to the death of a 25-year-old man and the injuries of a 22-year-old man.
Before 2 a.m., Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies found the two men inside a home on the 1200 block of Southwest 75th Drive, according to a release. Jonathan Morris was found dead when law enforcement arrived, and the unnamed 22-year-old was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital.
Morris’ death is considered a murder, said Art Forgey, spokesperson for the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies are not releasing specifically what caused Morris’ death at this time.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies noted the home’s front door was wide open and an alarm was blaring from a car parked in the driveway, according to the release.
Soon after the first two were found, a third man, whose name was not mentioned, was found injured on the 700 block of the street and also taken to UF Health Shands, according to the release. Deputies are investigating whether he is involved with the incident.
There are no arrests as of Sunday afternoon, Forgey said.
This isn’t the first homicide seen in Gainesville in 2019. In April, a Gainesville man was arrested in regards to the murder of 20-year-old Daniel Schweitzer, who was missing for months beforehand.
