The Pride Student Union (PSU) at UF hosted a welcome assembly and drag show Monday night in the Rion Ballroom at the Reitz Union to shed light on the queer perspectives.

They invited students from across campus to come enjoy free food, tabling from UF pride organizations, burlesque and drag performances and insight from pride student leaders. The show had the theme “Illuminate” and the PSU passed out glowsticks to every attendee as a representation of shedding light on queer perspectives.

“We just try to make a community and a family for those who may have trouble finding one somewhere else,” said Nikki Owens, third-year theater major at UF and active member of the PSU.

Over 250 people attended the show. “I’m excited,” Brianna Summers, local drag queen, said. “The only other time girls have performed here was RuPaul’s, so I’m excited to be one!”
