UF hosted its annual football media day on Thursday and alligatorSports was in attendance. Here are 10 of the best quotes we heard, in no particular order:
Senior running back Lamical Perine when asked if UF is a College Football Playoff team:
“Oh, yes. For sure. But you got to work hard for it, so we’re going to come out every day in practice trying to work for that goal.”
Sophomore kicker Evan McPherson on his range:
“If we’re talking wind behind me, in a game, I feel like I could hit 60.”
Coach Dan Mullen on CJ Henderson and Kadarius Toney, who were each given the No. 1 jersey:
“If you do well, I want to reward you. I always tell guys that. If you’re doing bad in school, you get in trouble, you’re missing workouts, you aren’t doing things the right way – I’ll give you jersey No. 43 and put some high tops on you.”
Mullen on his team’s depth:
“Our depth is good. I don’t think it’s great yet.”
Redshirt sophomore running back Malik Davis on his offensive line:
“They work their butt off. They work very hard, so I feel like we’ll be just fine. (I’m not worried) at all.”
Redshirt senior punter Tommy Townsend on his brother Johnny, who could appear on HBO’s Hard Knocks with the Oakland Raiders:
“He’s really excited for Hard Knocks and all that. It’s something we would always watch growing up, so it’s pretty cool that he’s going to be able to get on the show… We get to watch him a little bit, so it’s going to be pretty cool.”
Redshirt junior quarterback Feleipe Franks on his receiving corps:
“Just loaded. Deep. I mean, everybody we have – backups, starters, everybody – is just loaded… that’s kind of the only word I can think of.”
Redshirt sophomore defensive back Marco Wilson on who he models his game after:
“It was Darrelle Revis when he was in the league. That’s my favorite corner. I like playing like him. Real patient, real physical against receivers. I like that.”
Junior defensive back CJ Henderson on why Florida is “DBU”:
“The guys we consistently bring out, you see it every year. They go into the NFL and play at a top level, not only in college. So, I think that’s why they call us DBU.”
Redshirt freshman Emory Jones on his role this season:
“(Coach Mullen and I) had a meeting after camp and it was basically about my role on the team right now and the next steps I need to take to be that guy… I’m always anticipating playing every game. That’s how I (have) to approach it, to be the next guy up.”
