A man revving his engine at the entrance of Oxford Manor Apartments, located at 2777 SW Archer Road, Friday was met by Gainesville Police after officers received reports of an intoxicated person trying to drive a car.

Larry Edward Wedding Jr., 42, jumped out of the vehicle as officers approached and yelled, “I wasn’t driving,” according to a police report. He told police he had five beers but was unable to tell them when he had started or stopped drinking.

The arresting officer noted Wedding’s mood changed wildly throughout the investigation as he yelled racist and homophobic slurs and threats toward the officers on the scene, according to the report.

Police attempted to conduct several field sobriety tests, but Wedding was reportedly unable to follow instructions. When offered a breath test, Wedding reportedly told police, “F--- you, I’m not taking no test.”

Wedding was arrested and continued making threats toward the officers. According to the report, Wedding told police he had been a boxer for 20 years and “to take these handcuffs off and you’ll see what’s up.” He also told police, “I’m going to drag you from the back of my truck. I hope you die.”

According to the clerk of court records, Wedding was arrested for aggravated assault in April 2018 after intentionally ramming his vehicle into another man’s vehicle in an attempt to hurt him. He has been charged with two DUIs prior to this incident.

Wedding was charged with a DUI and refusing to submit to a DUI test, both misdemeanors. He remains in jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
