Joshua Hyden, 34, allegedly stole a 2016 Kawasaki motorcycle on May 4 at 1320 NW 3rd Ave., according to a sworn complaint from the Gainesville Police Department.
Williston Police Department located the motorcycle with the ignition “punched out” in Hyden’s Ford SUV. There was an ignition cylinder and tools associated with removing ignition switches in the SUV as well, according to the sworn complaint.
Hyden said he purchased the motorcycle for $1,000 but had no proof of purchase, according to the sworn complaint. On May 6 in an interview at Levy County Jail, Hyden said he could provide bank account information, which he never did.
Detectives met with a witness on May 7 who said Hyden called her and asked her to pick him up somewhere between Archer and Williston on County Road 241. She said she helped Hyden load the motorcycle into the SUV but did not know it was stolen, according to the sworn complaint.
On May 10, Hyden requested to speak to a detective about the incident from the Levy County Jail. Hyden was read his Miranda rights and was reminded the detective could not speak to him unless he specifically asked because he now had a lawyer, according to the sworn complaint.
After detectives turned off the recording device during their interview, Hyden admitted to grand theft. Hyden is charged with unarmed burglary and grand theft in lieu of a $70,000 bond.
