Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a cyberstalking report Tuesday evening.
A Newberry woman told deputies her ex-boyfriend had continually harassed her via phone, email, text messaging and voicemail message months after dating briefly. The woman said Steven Leslie Boyt, 49, emailed her 37 times and left her 56 voicemail messages from March to May, according to an arrest report.
The woman said she would block the phone number Boyt called her from, but he would quickly call her again from a different, unknown phone number. Boyt bragged to her about using a spoof phone number website to continue calling her, the woman said in the report.
Boyt called the woman 11 times while authorities were on the scene. On Tuesday alone, Boyt sent 28 text messages to the woman, all of which went unanswered. Boyt reportedly told the woman that “Drama was coming [her] way” and threatened via text message to come to her residence. Another message read, “Now you will have a real reason to hate me bi---,” according to the report.
The woman said she decided to report the harassment after the constant phone calls, texts and emails prevented her from sleeping and caused her to missed phone calls from loved ones. Boyt was charged with cyberstalking and taken to Alachua County Jail. His bond is set at $15,000.
