Her vocal range: chilling. Her stage presence: electric. Her performance at the Phillips Center: intimate.
Broadway actress Kristin Chenoweth is set to take the stage at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
In her solo act, “An Intimate Evening with Kristin Chenoweth,” the star will sing hit songs and share her personal experiences as a performer.
Her performance was originally scheduled for January, but the show got pushed back to May due to interference in Chenoweth’s TV recording schedule, according to the UF Performing Arts website.
Tickets purchased for the January performance are valid for Sunday’s.
Tickets are online at the UF Performing Arts website. The prices range from $45 to $75 depending on placement in the theater, with $10 UF student tickets.
Chenoweth, a Tony award-winning actress and singer, is most known for playing Broadway roles as Glinda the Good Witch from “Wicked” and Susie Brown from “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.”
The distinguished performer also starred in the TV series “Pushing Daisies” and won an Emmy for her quirky character, Olive Snook. The list of roles Chenoweth has played goes on, with appearances on “Glee,” “Sesame Street” and more.
Her successful career is stirring up excitement in Gainesville among students and theater buffs alike. Caroline Doyle, a 20-year-old UF biomedical engineering sophomore, is excited for the show and the opportunity it will give her to keep her love of theater alive.
“I thought it was really cool that students would get the opportunity to see a real Broadway star without ever having to leave campus,” Doyle said.
Beyond her fans, Chenoweth also has special ties with one particular group at UF.
Chenoweth was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority while she attended Oklahoma City University. Alumni and current members of the UF chapter plan to attend the show in support of their sister.
Any who come to listen to the Broadway star will be enchanted by what many call a class act.
Chenoweth is known to include famed "Wicked" hit "For Good" in her performance sets.
