Before the handcuffs went on, a woman introduced herself as Tequila, deputies said.

Canvas Lashes Morris, 36, of Gainesville, was arrested on a warrant Tuesday, according to court records. At about 4:30 p.m. on March 21, a deputy saw her park at a playground on the 7100 block of Southwest 19th Place, according to an Alachua County Sheriff’s Office sworn complaint affidavit.

The deputy approached her and Morris told him she had no license and wanted to leave, the report said. She told the deputy her name was Tequila.

While the deputy was announcing a traffic stop via radio, Morris started to drive, the report said. The deputy told her to stop, but she drove away on Southwest 75th Street.

The deputy started to chase her, the report said. She drove on opposite lanes, between cars and passed through a stop sign and a red light.

The deputy stopped driving because he felt continuing the chase would lead to Morris crashing, the report said. He then drove to Morris’ home and found the car she was driving, car keys on the grass and her cellphone inside the car.

The deputy was not able to find her, the report said.

Morris was charged with fleeing a deputy with lights and sirens active, the report said.

In 2012, Morris told Gainesville Police her name was Tequila Lewis and ran away while being arrested, according to court records. She was found guilty and accepted the conviction, but did not admit guilt. She had to pay $326 and was ordered to serve 60 days in the Alachua County Jail.

In 2005, she was accused of driving without a valid license and telling Gainesville Police her name was Janice Gaskin. She was found guilty and accepted the conviction, but did not admit guilt. She was given six months of probation and had to pay $278.

She remained in the Alachua County Jail Wednesday in lieu of a $25,000 bond.
