Hitting wasn't the issue for the Gators baseball team during Saturday's doubleheader.
UF accumulated 14 runs off 26 hits, enough for any team to feel good about its chances of victory.
Its pitching staff blew the productive offensive outing however, as Ole Miss swept Florida, winning 16-4 in Game 1 and 12-10 in Game 2.
In Game 1, Ole Miss (23-10, 8-4 SEC) took advantage of some sloppy defense from UF (21-13, 4-8 SEC), scoring five unearned runs through the first four innings to build a 5-1 lead it took into the fifth.
UF starter Tyler Dyson didn't give up any earned runs, but his command issues, which have plagued him off and on all season, were once again a problem on Saturday.
Dyson pitched 3.2 innings, giving up five runs off four hits, earning his second loss of the season.
At first glance, his line doesn't appear to be terrible, but the four walks the junior surrendered played a part in his early departure.
Redshirt freshman Hunter Ruth relieved the right-hander with two outs in the fourth, hoping to hold the Rebels' lead at four.
Instead, Ruth pitched his worse outing of the season, giving up 10 runs (eight earned) off 12 hits hits in just 2.1 innings of work.
Overall, the bullpen yielded 16 hits and 11 runs to Ole Miss.
The Rebels were hitting just under .300 heading into the series.
Game 2 got off to a much more promising start for the Gators.
UF shot out to an 8-0 lead thanks to strong showings in the third and fourth innings.
A two-RBI single in the third by center fielder Jud Fabian highlighted the inning for UF, giving them a 4-0 lead in the process.
Right fielder Wil Dalton's double down the left field line in the fourth upped his team's lead to eight runs as the game neared the halfway point.
That demanding lead soon vanished, as Ole Miss scored 10 runs over the next two innings, including eight in the fifth to quickly regain the lead.
Freshmen right-handers Christian Scott and Nolan Crisp were responsible for all 12 runs.
Scott started the game and pitched well through three innings but was pulled for Crisp after four innings of work. He gave up six earned runs off five hits, allowing three walks as well.
Crisp succumbed to his first loss of the season after giving up the go-ahead scores for the Rebels. He allowed five earned runs of his own off six hits.
A solo shot from designated hitter Nelson Maldonado in the sixth cut the lead to 10-9, and a wild pitch from Ole Miss later in the inning allowed the Gators to tie it after Calilao came across the plate.
The Rebels held UF scoreless the rest of the game though, adding two runs of their own — one in the sixth and one in the seventh — to beat Florida and earn the three-game sweep.
"We gave ourselves a chance in the second game today," coach Kevin O'Sullivan said in a release. "We had an eight run lead but obviously weren't able to hold on to it."
Florida was sloppy on Saturday, and the unforced errors caught up to it.
Eleven walks, three balks and four errors helped leave the Gators empty handed after the doubleheader.
UF has lost its last six SEC road games by a combined score of 74-24.
"We've got to learn how to play on the road in the SEC," O'Sullivan said. "It takes a different mentality and it takes some leadership…there's nothing we can do at this point other than continue to work hard."
